A painting by my late father, James Field. He was an artist and illustrator with a passion for history. Below is the accompanying text he wrote at the time:
The subject of this painting is the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3 of Hauptmann Harro Harder who was shot down and killed over the English Channel on the 8th December 1940. At the time he was Gruppenkommander of III./JG 53. His two brothers were also fighter pilots one of whom carried the name 'Harro' on all his aircraft until he too was killed. All three brothers were to die during the war.
