Copied

A painting by my late father, James Field. He was an artist and illustrator with a passion for history. Below is the accompanying text he wrote at the time:

DH.89A Rapide ambulance aircraft, Z7258 'Women of the Empire' awaits an Austin K2 'Katy' ambulance at Hendon. Overhead Z7261 'Women of Britain' comes in to land. These two aircraft were presented to No. 24 Squadron RAF in July 1940 by the 'Silver Thimble Fund'. Originally civilian aircraft, Z7258 had been registered as G-AFMH and Z7261 as G-AFMJ.
