A painting by my late father, James Field. He was an artist and illustrator with a passion for history. Below is the accompanying text he wrote at the time:
A Short Sunderland heads for home as the sun sets over an empty ocean.
For many Sunderland crews the war consisted of endless patrols with little or no action. However the long hours of constant vigilance would still have taken their toll on nerves.
