James Field's Liopleurodon Teeth

Copied

A painting by my late father, James Field. He was an artist and illustrator with a passion for history and wildlife. Below is the accompanying text he wrote at the time:

Just as the Pterosaurs are not ‘flying Dinosaurs’, Plesiosaurs and the other marine reptiles are not ‘swimming Dinosaurs’. One of the short-necked Plesiosaurs, or Pliosaurs, Liopleurodon had a skull length of some 5 feet (1.5m) and an overall length in excess of 33 feet (10m). With those huge jaws and long teeth Liopleurodon would have been one of the top predators in the Late Jurassic oceans that covered much of Europe at that time.
