James Field's Diplodocus Beach

Copied

A painting by my late father, James Field. He was an artist and illustrator with a passion for history and wildlife. Below is the accompanying text he wrote at the time:

Although there is a great deal of evidence in fossil track-ways that sauropods travelled in herds but here we see a solitary Diplodocus (double-beam) ambling along a beach in the early morning some time in the Late Jurassic of what will become North America. As the sun warms the air the sea mist is burning off to reveal the great coniferous forests beyond.
