James Field's Kentrosaurus

Copied

A painting by my late father, James Field. He was an artist and illustrator with a passion for history and wildlife. Below is the accompanying text he wrote at the time:

Closely related to the more famous Stegosaurus (roof-lizard), Kentrosaurus (spiky-lizard) is from the late Jurassic of Tanzania. Apart from being smaller Kentrosaurus also differed from Stegosaurus by having rear spikes instead of plates, with a spike projecting from each shoulder. This solitary specimen is seen taking a drink from a forest river. Trees are mainly the Monkey-puzzle family (Araucariaceae) with a large Ginkgo to the right. The understory is made up of tree ferns, Bennettitales and cycads and a floor cover of ferns with horsetails at the edges of the water.
