Copied

A painting by my late father, James Field. He was an artist and illustrator with a passion for history and wildlife. Below is the accompanying text he wrote at the time:

The Hell Creek Formation in western N. America contains some of the most famous of all Dinosaur Fossils, such as Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops, but many other types of animal lived there as well as other species of Dinosaurs.
Here we see a small herd of Ornithomimus (bird-mimic) surprised by a large lizard, Palaeosaniwa, (ancient-saniwa) leaping up from its lair. The flora was made up of sparse large trees similar to Elms, Beech, Sycamore and Chestnut, smaller trees related to Magnolia, Witch Hazel and fruit trees, shrubs similar to Buckthorn and plants of the ginger and nettle families.
